My Natural Skin Care Range

For a few months I’ve been working on creating a skincare range, yesterday was the long awaited debut and it was at a local farmers market. Despite being very cold I had an absolutely amazing time. There was a lot of interest in my products and I made some great sales. I am still working on the overall look of my products so I may end up re-designg them... some feeback on how you think they look would be greatly appreciated.

I’m currently working on a website so hopefully next year I will be selling online if everything goes according to plan, for now I’m happy selling locally at farmers market and craft fairs. I used to spend hundreds of pounds on products when I first decided to go natural, most of that money went on shipping and custom fees as I used to buy most my products from the USA. The palette is presented in a sturdy case which is the perfect size to pop in your handbag, additionally the compact mirror embedded within the case makes it even easier to touch up make up throughout the day.

Before using I spritzed my elf eye shadow brush with Mac Fix Plus, this simultaneously intensifies the pigmentation of the eye shadow whilst creating a creamy consistency. If you don’t have Mac Fix Plus, don’t worry just use a drop of H20 [water xD]!

This is the final look I created which is a soft elegant blended look with a touch of off white in the tear duct area to give the illusion of wideer eyes. I am especially impressed with the ease at which this eye-shadow blends and the intensity of the colours.

This particular palette has a few colours which resemble some of Mac Eye Shadows, so if you’re on a tight budget this month definitely opt for Sleek!

Overall, I give this product a 10/10 this product is affordable, quality and lasts all day without smudging whilst giving you a vibrant shimmery professional colour.

Handmade Natural Vanilla Whip

Everyone loves making their own body butters, but as we all know a moisturiser must contain water to truly provide moisture whether it is for your hair or your skin.

Body butters are great and will always be included in my skincare regimen, but so will my handmade body whips which are a mixture of water, exotic oils and rich indulgent body butters.

I’ve decided to post a few pictures of the process

This is the body whip after I have combined the water, aloe vera juice, oils and butters

I then double whip the lotion to create a light, airy indulgent body whip

Birthday Nails

For my birthday (which was last week) I decided to treat myself to a new pair of “gel nails”. I rarely get my nails done professionally, and have only previously had one set of acrylic nails ... yes one pair in 23 years ...so you can just imagine my sheer excitement.

I opted for the gel option as opposed to acrylic nails becuase I have read the latter is more damaging to your own nails. Unlike the acrylic technique, with the gel overlay no glue is used only a light coating of gel that is sculpted to your own nails. Although it looks like a very easy technique, it is actually the hardest for a nail technician to perform.

I decided to complete my nails with a French manicured look of which I wasn’t too keen on. After a few days I decided to dip into my nail varnish collection and choose a vibrant pink nail varnish by Barry M to spruce up my nails.

The question is though, which nail do you prefer

My New Homemade Kinky Curly Wig

I have decided in order to retain length successfully I need to do more protective styling, but at the same time I wanted to be able to wash and condition my hair thoroughly on a regular basis. For me weaves are great, but I always find it a little tricky getting to my scalp and moisturising successfully ...even with the applicator bottles!!

So I decided to make a wig, I wanted to opt for a texture that would mimic my own natural texture so I ordered some Kinky Curly Hair. When the hair first came, to my disbelieve it was jet black...I had requested natural colour!!!

Instead of returning the hair I decided to go ahead and bleach the extensions to match my own colour. I have the best of both worlds not, on days when I am running late for work or want to protect my hair I will just pop on my wig..and days when I want my natural hair to be free I will simply go bare. All round, it appears to be a winner.

Today I decided to opt for a purple eye look, I used a very cheap palette which I picked up from Bodycare (a uk shop) for 99p. If anyone would like a tutorial just leave a comment and I'll make a Youtube video for you.

My hair was 95% dry in these pictures, today was the first time Ive ever left a deep conditioner in my hair without washing it of, i actually liked the results and my hair felt soft and smelled yummy!!

Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie Review

I finally got my hands on some Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie thanks to one of my fellow Youtubers. It is hard for me being in the UK, because many of the great natural products tend to me made and distributed in the UK, thus I have to pay quite a lot of money to have them shipped to the UK.

Initially when I received this product I was very excited to try it after hearing mostly great reviews, the smell seemed yummy, emitting a mild floral fragrance. The first time I used this product was straight after my leave in, and when dried my hair felt very sticky as if I has drowsed it in oil.

The second time I used this product I decided to use it on dry hair and sealed with 100% organic unrefined coconut oil, the results were like day and night. My hair felt extremely soft, moisturised and supple. After colouring my hair I has been having an uphill struggle trying to get my hair to co-operate and feel moisturised...Shea Moisture was a god send to me!!

I would call this product a “light proteinser”, yes I have made up a word for it, because after all this product is through unique, it moisturises (and very well), whilst also adding strength to the hair strands with its ingredients, such as silk protein and neem oil which will aid in reducing breakage whilst adding smoothness and silkiness to your hair.

The only two reservations I have about this product are one, the name. I believe it has been marketed wrong perhaps as it didn’t “enhance” my curls at all, maybe someone with a looser hair texture from mine has more success in it defing their curls..if you did let me know. Secondly, the yummy floral scent that this product gives of, tends to turn into a sickly smell after around three days causing me to re-wash my hair sooner that I originally plan to.

Overall, I love this product and if the opportunity presented itself to me again to purchase this product at a reasonably price I would definitely without a shadow of a doubt jump at the chance.
I give this product a 9/10

Amy Winehouse dies 27 R.I.P

Amy Winehouse has sadly died aged 27, it has been alleged that the soul singer died from an overdose at her home in London.

The Metropolitan police said: "Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square shortly before 16.05hrs following reports of a woman found deceased. On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene."

Tributes began to pour in to one of the most celebrated and troubled British artists of recent times. Mark Ronson, who produced Back to Black, said: "She was my musical soulmate and like a sister to me. This is one of the saddest days of my life."

Presenter Phillip Schofield said on Twitter: "Just heard the sad news that Amy Winehouse has died. At only 27, what a terrible waste of a great talent. Sincere condolences to her family."

Singer and radio presenter Emma Bunton added: "Such sad news about Amy Winehouse. My thoughts are with her family." Singer and actress Kelly Osbourne wrote: "i cant even breath right now, im crying so hard i just lost 1 of my best friends. i love you forever Amy & will never forget the real you!"

Snap, CRACKLE, Pop!! Barry M Instant Nail Effects

I think the concept is fascinating, you simply apply the nail varnish over a colour of your choice, and watch as your nail varnish snaps, crackles and pops!

1) Use Barry M Base Coat & Top coat to prime the nails and create a base between your nails

If you have an eye for a bargain, charity shops may just be for you. They are great places to pick up one of classic vintage pieces. Throughout my years of “charity shopping” I have brought some breathtaking vintage pieces from stunning clip on earrings (my ears aren’t pierced) to unique cardigans ... all at an affordable price. Today I picked up a 1950’s Kelly Bag for the low cost of £2.49!!

This season Kelly bags are very popular and are now even more accessible for the masses, especially as low cost fashion chain Primark have started selling Kelly inspired bags, but why pay more for a replica when you can get the real deal cheaper.

The main things to remember about “charity shopping”

1) You must search for the good items, they won’t be at the top of the pack waiting for you, you need to shift through the stacks of items to find the hidden gem

2) You won’t always find the pieces of your dreams, its hit and miss but don’t give up perseverance is the key

3) Don’t be embarrassed to go into a charity shop, there is a massive misconception that charity shops are for the poor which is incorrect, charity
shops are a profitable business and all proceeds go to a good cause

This outfit is perfect for a casual day out with friends on a summer’s day. This light, floaty pink chiffon shirt is from H&M and has been teamed with pearly pink and black shorts, also from the same store

H&M provides fashionable, trendy clothes at an affordable price, which is why this store is one of my favourite places to shop! The Shirt was £19:99 and the shorts were £7.99, a total bargain.

I have given this outfit a twisty edge by wearing a purple and black vintage bag which ties in the entire outfit. Black pumps and a purple rose ring make this a comfy wearable outfit!

When a professional colour job goes wrong

With the summer month approaching, I decided to take the plunge and get a “professional colour job”. I searched the internet and found my ideal colour – warm browns and blondes jumped at me through my computer screen.

I instantly fell in love with the colours, and as I am not a professional colourist I decided to go to a salon which was recommended to me.I had not stepped foot in a salon for over four years and was rather apprehensive about the “procedure”, especially as I knew to achieve the colours I desired bleach would have to be used to lift my dark brown hair.

I explained to the colourist what I wanted and also showed her the images of my desired colour. As she applied the highlights to my hair, I sat in anticipation, awaiting my dream hair!

In this case my dream did not match my reality - it was not even close. As the colour was washed of my hair, I dashed to the mirror excited to see my new summer colour, what stared back at me was devastation and shock.

The colours as you can see are not even close, I had to wear my hair to work and was highly embarrassed (event though I am smiling), but rocked it with confidence!

I was going to rectify the problem myself, but after much persuasion from my friend who had initially recommended me (she has been going to her for 30years) I decided to let her correct the problem (free of charge), although I did tip her £10 for her time.

I had a rinse (demi-permanent colour) applied to my hair which rectified the problem, and now my hair resembles the initial image that I showed the hairdresser. The only downside is in eight weeks, when the rinse wears off, I will be left with the brash blonde that is lurking underneath thus will need to re-apply the rinse.

The moral of the story, for me at least, is to ALWAYS have a consultation prior to colouring AND insist on a strand test, if one hasn’t been offered by the salon. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, your hair is precious, so don’t be blinded by the need for instant gratification as I was.

Admittingly, when I first big cut I was in shock ...now ... It’s sinking in. Today is the second day of my big cut and now styled I must say – I LOVE IT!!! It is easier to maintain that my long hair. To style, put in twists then bantu knots. Ideally, you will have at least 15 bantu knots to create luscious defined curls.

Banding Hair

Whether you are natural or relaxed, you shouldn’t automatically jump for electrical tools when drying your tresses. A great way to dry hair whilst eliminating potentially damaging tools such as blow-dryers is a technique called banding. As the name might suggest, the key tool for banding is a simple hair elastic band (Image Below)

The purpose of the elastic band is to stretch the hair as it dries. So, on wet apply your leave in, mouisturiser and sealent. When hair is fully prepared take sections of hair and begin banding the hair. For visuals on how to band, please refer to the video below.

Please Note: In the video it was my first time using the Goody Ouchless Elastic Bands. I was not impressed at all, BUT, after trial and error I have found that if I dip the elastic in oil first it prevents my hair from tangling around the little plastic part on the elastics.

Hair Strands of a Natural Hairolic!!!

Yes, I’m in love and addicted to my hair thus the term HAIROLIC ... but there are some things I’m not addicted to. Due to the nature of naturally curly hair it has a tendency to curl back upon itself and tangle which is where single strand knots come into play ... The image (image one + image two) shows a single knot strand of which I recently cut from my hair

If you look closely you can see a single strand knot (SSK’s) on each strand. After cutting all my SSK’s (about 1-2inches) a few days later they were back with a vengeance!!! I later realised why ... my hair was dry from colouring it plus the cold winter weather was taking its toll on my hair ... So since then I’ve been sealing my hair with Crisco!!! YES CRISCO .. I’ve been using it on my ends only after I moisturise and my SSK’s have dramatically been reduced ... So before getting cutting defiantly give Crisco a try what have you got to lose?

Humble Beginnings: My Big Cut in 2007

I big cut (BC) in 2007, 23rd May to be precise. As a young lady I had mixed feelings on one hand I felt very liberated and free on the other I felt very lost in terms of how to style, what to use and how to care for my hair. Along the way I have learned many valuable tips and tricks and also found products that work well for my 4a/b hair.

The BC is a very personal choice. Some shave totally bare, some transition for a long time and some, like me transition for a short period of time. I didn't like my limp, lifeless, un lustrous strands. My tresses had no body, no length no zest for life ... It was dead. Time for a change.

Finally the AHHHH!! Moment came to me!! When I was younger my hair was long, healthy and thick. Why? Because I didn't relax! I Let my hair be how god intended ... wild and care free ... that ladies and gentleman is what I strive for today.

I have a confession ... Im a Hairolic!!! I'm addicted to everything that's hair related. I can truly appreciate the beauty of relaxed, texturized, curly permed transitioning and of course ... Natural hair. I love the versitility my natural hair has given me.

Im from United Kingdom, Birmingham to be exact. I don't see many British bloggers ... I hope I may begin to pave the way for more natural British Hairolics to come out the wood works.
